The healthcare industry contributes greatly to value creation and growth in the university city of Freiburg and currently employs 35,000 people. This corresponds to around 27 percent of employees subject to social insurance contributions. This means that more than one in four jobs here is in the healthcare industry.
Healthcare, which includes hospitals and care facilities, is the most employment-intensive sector in the region. The healthcare industry is made up of the pharmaceutical industry, medical technology and biotechnology companies.
