Zimmerei Grünspecht eG, based in the Green Industry Park Hochdorf , is a very special timber construction company. It is committed to ecology, healthier building and sustainability. Grünspecht is a true pioneer in sustainable timber construction and can look back on an impressive history. This began in the early 1980s. Back then, the company was founded by Hermann Hallenberger and Wilfried Pauer together with two other pioneers as a civil law partnership. Their vision was to establish a self-managed craft business without a sole boss - a concept that is still being successfully realised today.

Today, Zimmerei Grünspecht is more than just a traditional craftsman's business; it has made a name for itself primarily through its innovative projects. The "Vogelnest" building project in the Freiburg-Vauban district proved to be groundbreaking in this respect. The building was part of a research project on "healthy building" and impresses with an exceptionally good indoor climate. In the 1980s, the Green Woodpeckers were also pioneers in insulation with renewable raw materials, the cellulose insulation material "isofloc", and were the first "Floccer" in Freiburg.

A look into the future: straw-insulated buildings as the next step in ecological consistency

Over the last few years, Grünspecht Carpentry has opened up another field of ecological consistency. At its site in the Green Industry Park Hochdorf, the carpentry firm develops and constructs straw-insulated buildings. The company is also a pioneer in this field throughout Germany.

Philipp Weßling, an expert in straw construction at Grünspecht: "With the introduction of straw bale construction in 2019, we at Zimmerei Grünspecht have further developed our ecological focus. The building elements made from the renewable and natural materials wood, straw and clay are resource-saving, healthy to live in and recyclable. This takes our way of building to the next level in terms of sustainability. And with economic success."
