The journey of HR WORKS, a software specialist from Freiburg, began in 1998 with the development of the first German cloud solution for travel expense accounting. With additional locations in Frankfurt and Berlin, HR WORKS is now active as a medium-sized HR tech company and currently supports around 3,000 customers with over 300,000 users in their day-to-day work. Thanks to its impressive development, HR WORKS is one of the leading providers of digital HR solutions for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the DACH region.

Success story in the Breisgau metropolis

HR WORKS was a pioneer with its first cloud-based solution and has steadily expanded its offering over the following years. HR WORKS software now covers all HR processes, from employee administration and travel expense reports to time recording and preparatory payroll.

Companies are relieved by future-proof HR digitalisation

HR WORKS underwent a significant changein autumn 2020 when experienced Holtzbrinck digital manager Markus Schunk took the helm as the new CEO. Under his leadership, the company continued to grow significantly. With the acquisition of DriversCheck GmbH in Cologne in 2022, HR WORKS expanded its portfolio to include Germany's leading digital driving licence checker, laying the foundation for the HR WORKS Group.

The expansion course was continued at the beginning of 2024 with the acquisition of the Vienna-based technology company Bonrepublic, a solution for talent management. From 2020 to 2024, the number of employees almost quadrupled. More than half of the team works in Freiburg. This development fits in with our dynamic and successful city, which is a real success factor in the history of HR WORKS. The city of Freiburg offers many advantages as a location and, for example, its manageable size ensures increased visibility for the company.
