Freiburg is far more than just a city with plenty of cycle paths – it is a true cycling city, where the bicycle is at the heart of everyday life. The company Lucky Bike proves that this enthusiasm is also put into practice professionally and sustainably. Since taking over the long-established HILD Radwelt in spring 2025, Lucky Bike has been operating in Freiburg and has systematically modernised its premises on Engesserstraße.

Sustainability as a solid foundation
For Lucky Bike, sustainability is not a passing trend, but is firmly embedded in the company’s ‘green DNA’. The success of this strategy is evident not only in the growing number of users, but also in the recognition it has received from experts: the company has already been awarded one of Germany’s most prestigious sustainability prizes for its holistic eco-concept.
In Freiburg, the company is now consistently putting this into practice:
- Energy efficiency: The entire branch is powered 100 per cent by certified green electricity and uses state-of-the-art LED technology.
- Circular economy: In the workshop, resources are actively conserved through the Schwalbe recycling system for old tyres and inner tubes, as well as a consistent policy of minimising packaging.
- Active mobility transition: As a holder of Freiburg’s ‘MobilSiegel’ certification, Lucky Bike promotes climate-friendly mobility directly in the region by offering company bike leasing schemes to local employers.
Stronger together: Getting involved at the Green Industry Park
As a company based in the Nord industrial estate, Lucky Bike is aware of its responsibility towards the local area. The team therefore regards its involvement in the Freiburg Green Industry Park (GIP) initiative as a key element in actively shaping the transformation into a forward-looking, energy- and resource-efficient site. “Freiburg and Lucky Bike are united by a genuine passion for a green, liveable future on two wheels,” says the company.
A heartbeat for Freiburg
The fact that the new approach has been well received was particularly evident at the grand reopening in spring 2026: when the doors of the modernised branch on Engesserstraße opened, not only did new customers flock in, but so did many loyal regulars from the former HILD Radwelt. For the team, the harmonious blend of traditional Freiburg charm and the modern Lucky Bike world is the greatest reward.
For the team on the ground, the high standards set by Freiburg’s residents – from cargo bikes for the weekly shop to e-mountain bikes for the Schauinsland – provide daily motivation to work together to make the city a little greener.
