Top destination for job and knowledge seekers
Freiburg was a Lonely Planet Top 3 travel destination in 2022, and the attraction of the city, which has been growing steadily for over 60 years, remains unbroken for people who want to settle here in the long term: Almost 20 per cent of all employees in Freiburg come from abroad, from 176 countries worldwide to be precise. The number of foreign employees has more than doubled compared to 2006 with an increase of 169%. Across Germany, the proportion has risen by 22%.
The traditional Albert Ludwig University, renowned universities, renowned research institutes, international companies, innovative spin-offs and start-ups make the city attractive for newcomers from science and research.
