A commercial and mixed-use area with a net construction area of around 21 hectares is being built on the site of the old goods station, which will be used in equal parts for commercial and residential purposes("city of short distances" concept). Transport connections:

The Güterbahnhof Nord area is accessible via the entrance and exit to Isfahanallee. The heavy-duty road grid of the development is based on the existing access roads in a north-south direction. The Freiburg-Mitte access road to the A5 freeway is approx. 5 km away. The planning area is very well connected to public transportation: The Zollhallenplatz and Eugen-Martin-Straße stops on streetcar line 2 provide a quick connection to the city center and the main train station 2 km away. Cycle lanes were created through the area of the freight yard site in 2020 and connected to the "freight yard cycle path" FR 2. In the future, this path will be extended along the railroad line and eventually lead to neighboring Gundelfingen.
