Commercial and Industrial Estate
The Hochdorf commercial and industrial estate covers an area of approximately 120 hectares. Alongside long-established family businesses, internationally active corporations have also set up operations here.
The outlying areas are predominantly home to large, supra-regional and industrial companies, such as Zahoransky Formenbau GmbH (plant engineering) and Dr. Falk Pharma GmbH (pharmaceuticals), as well as well-known freight forwarders (Streck Transport GmbH, DHL International GmbH and AMAZON Deutschland GmbH). The new Post AG mail sorting centre, Wall AG and the City of Freiburg’s Central Art Depot, as well as WVD Südcaravan, are also based here.
In the inner area, alongside Taifun-Tofu GmbH (Europe’s largest tofu producer), there are primarily traditional craft businesses such as Glas Löffler GmbH & Co. KG, Zimmerei Grünspecht, Armin & Josef Hasler Carpentry – Solar Specialists – Wooden Staircase Construction, Mathis Roller Shutters and Sun Protection, Mehler Interior Design and Frenzel Mobile Cranes. At the heart of the area are IT service providers such as Bechtle AG and the NOVELLUS Group with LEITWERK AG. Long-established companies such as KOCH Freiburg, formerly known as Beschläge Koch, are also based here.
The industrial part of the area is zoned for building materials and earthworks. This is where Freiburger Erdaushub- und Bauschuttaufbereitungs-GmbH (FEBA) is located.
Since 2021, the industrial estate has been part of the Green Industry Park Freiburg. Based on a climate protection concept, the Hochdorf site is being developed sustainably in collaboration with the companies. Every quarter, companies meet at the Hochdorf Roundtable with the aim of putting climate-friendly business practices into practice.
Special features
During the planning of the Hochdorf commercial and industrial estate in 1978, the road network was designed to create exclusively rectangular plots.
As the area is particularly well-suited as a logistics hub due to its proximity to the motorway, the road layout and width are sufficiently dimensioned for lorry traffic. Parking spaces specifically designed for lorries are also provided along Bebelstraße. The large roundabout, the wide roads and the lush greenery in the public spaces give the streets a tree-lined character.
Transport links
The excellent transport links are the hallmark of the commercial and industrial area. It is very conveniently located approximately two kilometres from the Freiburg-Nord motorway exit (A5). The area is accessed via Markwaldstraße in an east-west direction and via Bebelstraße in a north-south direction. As part of the expansion of the Rheintalbahn freight railway line along the A5, a direct motorway link to the Freiburg-Nord exit via Bebelstraße is planned.
The area is connected to local public transport via tram line 1 and bus routes 36 or 25 via Freiburg Nord, and has a fast link to the city centre.
